100 Post-its is a project about pushing through creative blocks by simplifying the creative process.
In a world where we, as designers, have unlimited tools and technology at our disposal, I wanted to challenge myself and see what I could create over 100 days using only the most basic tools found in any office, post-it notes and marker pens.
The rules of the challenge were to spend 5 minutes per drawing using only pens or markers found in the stationery drawer at the office. All drawings had to be done on 2" x 1.5" sticky notes. Here are the results!
By not having to concern myself with the how's or what's of image-making, I was able to use focus exploring and developing my own aesthetic/style and drawing practice through very simple compositions.
As for the subject matter, I wanted to shy away from using external images for reference and only relied on whatever I was feeling to inform my drawings.
A lot of the drawings, if not most, are of highly personal nature and provide a small glimpse into my experience as a creative person who has struggled with self-doubt, fear and depression.
This became a project not only about exploring my own creativity but also about the spontaneity of drawing without a plan, embracing the possibility of making mistakes, and pushing oneself through creative blocks.
With no brief, no deadline (per se), no expectations of success or metrics, going through this process allowed me to feel more comfortable with my aesthetic and sensibilities. In the end, this project became a ritual that brought healing into my own creative practice.
Thank you!
