In May of 2014, I was asked to create a cover illustration based on the leading article of the Summer issue of Converge Magazine. The leading article was a critical take at a recent widely-promoted debate between Bill Nye the Science Guy and Ken Ham, a leading voice in the Young Earth creationism amongst evangelicals.
Commonly seen as two irreconcilable views, the article sought to bridge the divide and find commonalities between the two sides of the Evolution-vs-Creation debate. The illustration was a literal take on portraying the two sides divided.
The design of the article spreads along with the initial art direction and concepts were done by Carmen Bright, Converge's in-house designer at the time. Below are some of the concept and in-progress sketches.
